July 9, 2012 - PRLog -- "When we stand up, bullies back down!" That's the focus of the third annual New Jersey Walks For TS event scheduled to take place Saturday, November 3, at Borough Park in Mendham. The New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome & Associated Disorders (NJCTS) is asking people to stand up and walk the walk by joining it for a day of advocacy, empowerment and fun designed for kids, by kids and about kids.

Bullying affects thousands of children each day in New Jersey, and NJCTS supports them and all the mechanisms designed to protect them — including the walk, which will take place rain or shine Nov. 3, beginning with registration at 8:30 a.m., check-in and warm-up at 9:30 a.m., and continuing with the walk at 10 a.m. Registration is now open and is $22.50 through Oct. 31. It will be $25 on the day of the walk.

This year’s 5K family fun run/walk will strengthen the statewide education outreach and peer advocacy programs of NJCTS. It also will feature a family picnic as part of the event. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch and comfortable chairs, as well as stay for fun, music and entertainment.

The mission of the walk is to support children and families with TS, ADHD, OCD, anxiety disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome and other neurological disorders. Making November 3, 2012, the day you walk the walk and stand up against bullying is an important decision because it doesn’t matter what makes us different when we focus on what makes us strong.
