July 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Guitar teacher and recording artist Mike Philippov has released a resource about learning to play guitar that analyzes in detail the fundamentals that are common to all great musicians.

Philippov comments: “While there are a lot of unique and specific things that one must learn about guitar playing and about music to become a great musician, there are certain underlying fundamentals that MUST be in place for anyone who wants to play guitar well. Most guitarists are not taught what these ideas are, and thus never evolve into great musicians even after playing guitar for years. The few who manage to learn to play guitar at a high level understand or follow these concepts intuitively in the process of learning all the technical elements of their craft. This is one of the reasons why great guitar players are usually described as having a lot of natural talent. Fortunately, once these ideas are understood, they can be applied by anyone to develop great musical skills more quickly.”

In his guitar teaching video, Philippov lists the following points as being key to successful guitar playing:

1.   An unusually high level of passion and desire. “This quality is the starting point that drives everything else”, says Philippov. He continues: “Because becoming a great guitarist requires for a lot of work to be done in advance, only those few who want it bad enough will go all the way to reach their goal. The key is in knowing how to achieve and then cultivate that level of intensity within yourself.”

2.   The ability to solve their guitar playing problems. While some guitarists manage to successfully do this on their own, most have to turn to a guitar teacher for help in order to consistently make progress in their guitar playing.

3.   Commitment and perseverance. Philippov states: “Big results require one to be patient and committed to reaching the long term results they are after. This demands an unusually high level of perseverance over a period of many years if one wants to truly learn to play music at the same level as their favorite guitar players. There are some key understandings that great guitar players have that enable them to stay committed and persevere over this long period of time that most guitar players lack. These elements make a substantial difference in one’s potential for success.”
