Birkett Long strengthens its senior team with promotions

July 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Wendy Kelly, Helen Pettican, Emma Waters and Emma Wraight have become Associates while Claire Read has been promoted to Equity Partner.

Wendy Kelly has been the chief cashier of the firm for more than 20 years. She is also responsible for payroll, nominal ledger and payments to suppliers as well as the cash flow.
   
Helen Pettican joined Birkett Long from college 25 years ago, starting as a secretary and working her way through to quality manager, head of the administration team and the partnership secretary. She has played a major part in obtaining and maintaining the firm's Lexcel and ISO accreditations.

Emma Waters is a member of the personal tax, trusts and probate team. She qualified as a solicitor in 2006 and specialises in wills, powers of attorney, court of protections and mental capacity issues. Miss Waters also advises on inheritance tax mitigation, trust creation and administration, as well as probate work and long term care. She is a committee member of the Essex branch of the Society of Estate and Trust Practitioners (STEP), a member of Solicitors for the Elderly and a trustee of the Art Ministry in Hadleigh.
Solicitor Emma Wraight has a LLB (Hons) from the University of Hertfordshire. She joined Birkett Long in 2005 after working in the legal departments of British Sugar and One Housing Group. Mrs Wraight specialises in commercial and residential property law at Birkett Long, while she is also a trustee and company director for Farleigh Hospice.

Birkett Long’s head of personal tax, trusts and probate in Chelmsford, Claire Read joined the firm from a practice in Hornchurch, having qualified as a solicitor in 2000.  She became a partner in the firm in 2005. Mrs Read is on the local and strategic committee of the Essex Chambers of Commerce Chelmsford and Mid-Essex and is honorary solicitor for the Mid Essex Hospitals’ Charities Foundation. She is also Chair of the Essex branch of STEP and a member of Solicitors for the Elderly.
