Ability Counts at Burton Albion

A disability football festival including East Staffordshire Borough Council's, 'Able Too United', has been held at the Pirelli Stadium.

July 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Five teams competed in the event which saw sides of 6v6 go up against each other to win the Staffordshire Ability Counts League.
The League, which was launched in September 2008, has seen the teams compete once a month for the past seven months at different locations across Staffordshire. It allows players with a disability or impairment the opportunity to join together and take part in additional games and competitions.
Ash Abbey is the disability officer for Burton Albion Community Trust – a Burton charity - and is the lead coach supporting Able Too United. He said: "The players love being part of a team and playing on the Pirelli Stadium pitch just makes it that little bit extra special for some of the lads who are big Burton Albion Fans."

"Playing the final round at the Stadium really put the icing on the cake for a fantastic season all round."
Winners of the League were Port Vale Deaf FC. The winner's trophy was presented by Andrew Griffiths, MP for Burton-on-Trent and Uttoxeter. He said: "This was a fantastic day, and brought together teams from across the county for a competitive and fun event. I would like to pay tribute to everyone involved, including Burton Albion Community Trust for hosting it."

Jamie Leaning, Community Disability coach for Staffordshire FA said: "On behalf of the Staffordshire FA and Staffordshire Ability Counts League I would like to thank Burton Albion FC and BACT for hosting the final league fixtures of the season at their Pirelli Stadium.

"The buzz around the players and staff was there for all to see as many got to play football on a Football League ground for the first time in their lives.

"The day was a huge success for the league and hopefully we can increase the competition ready for an exciting 2012/13 season. Many thanks to Andrew Griffiths for attending and presenting the league champions Port Vale Deaf FC with their winners medals and trophy."
