As They Celebrate 20-years in Business,We Ask Steve and Sandra Whitley of Business Print and Design

Many more tread water for years before their owners close them down or sell up at a loss. So when thebestofwrexham heard that Steve and Sandra Whitley of Business Print and Design in Wrexham are due to celebrate 20-years trading in June, we thought we’d ask them to share some of their secrets and tell us about themselves to mark this great achievement.

After starting life as a Prontaprint franchise, and now located on the town’s industrial estate, Steve and Sandra moved from the high street in 2005 to concentrate on serving the business community. They now run the business completely independently, and offer a full print and design service. They’ve recently invested heavily in state-of-the-art equipment and can produce a range of high-quality products very quickly. Every job’s given the same level of attention, from the smallest business card to the largest brochure, which is something that’s at the heart of everything the business does. Steve’s a believer in perfection. He doesn’t just want to make something that’s purely functional for your business; he wants you to love it too.  

“Without doubt, customer service is the key,” explained Steve. “Every customer rightly thinks their job is the most important one. So you have to make sure they get exactly the level of attention they expect. We’re honest with them and tell them if we can’t do a job so their expectations are set from the outset.”

Looking back at how things have changed in the printing industry, Steve and Sandra can remember when colour photocopiers were in their infancy, and customers used to copy black and white photos and expect them to be magically transformed into colour! And Steve fondly recalls telling a client that the same machine couldn’t tell what someone’s hair colour was or the shade of their jacket from a non-colour photo.

When they’re not running their business, Steve and Sandra both like spending time at home with their daughters in Overton. Sandra enjoys travelling, especially Italy and she is flying to Verona with Steve later this year to fulfil her lifelong dream of watching “Aida” in the city’s amphitheatre. She also studied French as a second language last year, and if she wasn’t working in the printing industry, she’d love to work in Child Psychology. For Steve, his big passion is motorbikes. He loves the way that biking brings together people from all walks of life. He’s ridden his bike in New Zealand, Morocco, Southern Ireland and most of Western Europe. Last year Steve enjoyed a brilliant trip to Switzerland via the world-famous Nurburing, and the beautiful Alsace region of France.   His dream-job involves two wheels too: Steve can’t think of a better way to earn a living than being a motorcycle tour guide all year round, touring Morocco in the winter and the Spanish mountains during the summer months.
