Military Veterans Called Back Into Action With New Hiring InitiativeOver one million U.S. military service members will be returning home during the next five years, and one company in New Orleans is gearing up to help those veterans quickly find work and transition more easily back to civilian life.
By: HEROfarm Crescent Guardian, which partnered with national non-profit organization HIRE HEROES USA to connect veterans with work, decided to go a step further and develop the Hiring NOLA Heroes campaign specifically targeting veterans living in the New Orleans area. The company has set a goal of hiring as many as 100 military veterans as security guards by the end of 2012. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently reported that the unemployment rate for veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time since September 2001 was 12.1% in 2011. Military veterans returning from their final tours often have a difficult time readjusting to civilian life after experiencing the rigors of combat. Crescent Guardian is looking to bridge that gap by providing work that is essentially second nature to military veterans. With a new report from the U.S. Small Business Association stating that with combat operations beginning to wind down, over one million service members will be returning over the next five years, CGI believes companies are in a prime position to do a lot of good for New Orleans. “Military veterans make excellent guards. They already have great training, are disciplined, can handle pressure and clients love knowing veterans are protecting their assets,” said Marian Pierre, CEO of Crescent Guardian. “We want to help give them a way to constructively utilize their hard-fought experience.” Interested military veterans can apply for a position with CGI by visiting their website at www.cgiprotects.com. Positions include armed/unarmed guards, field supervisors, dispatch and others. Veterans can also visit www.hireheroesusa.org to see about work opportunities nationwide. CGI is challenging other businesses in the New Orleans area to participate in the campaign as well by signing up with HIRE HEROES USA and starting their own hiring initiative. Crescent Guardian, Inc., which is a full service security integration firm headquartered in New Orleans, has served the federal, state, municipal, commercial, oil, pharmaceutical and critical infrastructure industries for over 19 years.
