Military Veterans Called Back Into Action With New Hiring Initiative

July 3, 2012 - PRLog -- (New Orleans) – US military veterans and soldiers returning home to New Orleans after completing their service are being called into action. Local security firm Crescent Guardian, Inc., is leading the charge in the city to employ as many local veterans as possible and is challenging other businesses to join them. CGI has launched "Hiring NOLA Heroes," a campaign to have companies hire as many veterans as possible by the end of 2012. The campaign’s goal is to help ex-soldiers quickly find work in the Greater New Orleans Area and transition more easily back to civilian life.

Crescent Guardian, which partnered with national non-profit organization HIRE HEROES USA to connect veterans with work, decided to go a step further and develop the Hiring NOLA Heroes campaign specifically targeting veterans living in the New Orleans area. The company has set a goal of hiring as many as 100 military veterans as security guards by the end of 2012. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently reported that the unemployment rate for veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time since September 2001 was 12.1% in 2011.

Military veterans returning from their final tours often have a difficult time readjusting to civilian life after experiencing the rigors of combat. Crescent Guardian is looking to bridge that gap by providing work that is essentially second nature to military veterans. With a new report from the U.S. Small Business Association stating that with combat operations beginning to wind down, over one million service members will be returning over the next five years, CGI believes companies are in a prime position to do a lot of good for New Orleans.

“Military veterans make excellent guards. They already have great training, are disciplined, can handle pressure and clients love knowing veterans are protecting their assets,” said Marian Pierre, CEO of Crescent Guardian. “We want to help give them a way to constructively utilize their hard-fought experience.”
