Follow on Google News | Oregon Wine Named Best Pinot Noir From the USIn this year’s London Decanter World Wine Awards it was an Oregon Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley that took the top honors. The WillaKenzie Estate 09 Pinot Noir Aliette won a gold medal and then was ranked as the best Pinot Noir from the US.
Over 200 wine merchants, sommeliers, journalists and authors including 54 Masters of Wine and 11 Master Sommeliers, took part in a week of judging in April. Out of 47 regions, many wines took medals, but only one medal could go to the Best In Show for Pinot Noir from the United States. About the Decanter World Wine Awards: The Decanter World Wine Awards is the world's most prestigious and trusted wine competition, giving authoritative recommendations to wine lovers worldwide. All wines awarded a medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards deserve recognition. During the judging process the very best wines are awarded a Gold Medal. These are then re-tasted against others in their Regional Category to determine the Regional Trophy winners - the best of their region, a very significant achievement. Only when wines have been awarded this prestigious award are they pitted against grape varieties from around the world, to determine the winners of the highly sought-after International Trophies. All Silver wines are tasted twice, and all Gold, Regional Trophy and International Trophy winning wines are tasted up to four times.
