Safer does not mean more expensive says leading WAV company

You don’t have to sacrifice safety for affordability – that’s the message from leading car conversion company Constables Mobility who have slashed their prices to prove it.

July 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Wheelchair users eligible to receive a car through the Motability scheme can now secure a sled-tested wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) for a Motability Advance Payment from as little as £490. Constables also supply wheelchair accessible vehicles using a range of other finance options, so an affordable sled tested car is a realistic option for everyone.

The move follows concerns from wheelchair users that the www.sledtesting.co.uk campaign being run by Disabled Motoring UK and supported by Constables Mobility as well as other organisations, may lead to higher prices.

Constables’ Managing Director David Constable explains: “I care passionately about the safe conversion of vehicles for wheelchair users and I believe all companies have a moral duty to sell vehicles that have been tested to the highest possible levels. That is why I’ve taken the decision to reduce our prices and prove our commitment to safety.”

The sled-testing campaign has caused friction among convertors across the country, some of whom do not have their vehicles sled tested after they have been converted.
Experts say that sled testing, the highest level of safety testing, is not expensive. The tests cost around £15,000 per model. This works out at around £150 per vehicle if a convertor is selling just 100 cars per year, which is just £30 per year over the length of a standard contract.

Recent supporters of the sled testing campaign include actress and disability campaigner Julie Fernandez who played Brenda in the hit comedy The Office and Eastenders star and wheelchair user David Proud.

People who care about the safety of disabled people on the road are being urged to sign Disabled Motoring UK’s government e-petition http://www.sledgetesting.co.uk/petition.html

Choosing a Constables Mobility vehicle means customers don’t need to compromise safety, quality or choice. Every Constables conversion has a certificate to prove they have been sled tested and Constables’ conversions spend more time on the road and less time being serviced because they have been engineered to be as close as possible to the original car.

Vehicle makes converted at the purpose-built factory and delivered across the UK include Citroёn, Peugeot, Renault and Nissan.

Constables Mobility is one of the UK's leading manufacturers and suppliers of rear access wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) for one or two wheelchair users and has the largest range of flexible, fully tested seating options in the WAV industry, offering the perfect solution for everyone searching for disabled vehicles.
