Columbia Bank "Teams Up" with Paterson Habitat for Humanity

A volunteer crew of Columbia Bank employees recently teamed up with Paterson Habitat for Humanity to help build a new, affordable living home in the Greater Paterson area. The Columbia volunteers, who completed various framing assignments, provided the “elbow grease” necessary to move the construction project along.

Columbia Bank is a regular supporter of Habitat for Humanity projects, which repairs and builds local affordable homes for low-income families. Since 1993, Columbia has also sponsored grants totaling more than $1.2 million which alone funded 130 habitat homes.

D. Jane Albanese of Giants of Generosity is Honored for Community Outreach by NJ Association of Women Business Owners

D. Jane Albanese, founder and executive director of Giants of Generosity in Cresskill, New Jersey, has been honored with the 2012 Rose & Scroll award by the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners (NJAWBO). The award recognizes women outside of the organization for being a positive role model for women and for making a difference in the lives of women through their community service. Albanese was chosen as the Bergen chapter’s Rose & Scroll honoree last spring which made her eligible for statewide consideration; she was given the award at a ceremony during NJAWBO’s annual membership meeting on May 22, 2012 in Bridgewater, New Jersey.

“It is such an honor to be recognized by the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners,” said Albanese. “I am overwhelmed by the support I have received from NJAWBO members since first being recognized by the Bergen chapter last year.” Several NJAWBO members volunteer for Giants of Generosity and others have made financial contributions to help the non-profit continue its work.

Albanese founded Giants of Generosity, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, in 2007 with the mission to respond to the most pressing needs of people within the local community who are experiencing critical, life-altering situations. It provides financial aid, moral support, and connects recipients with other agencies, businesses, and local organizations whose resources and expertise can help get residents back on their feet. Over the years, the organization has helped pay rent, utility and medical bills; pulled together a team of contractors and a grant from the United Water Foundation to completely renovate a home to accommodate a newly disabled man; and held a Gifts for Children event to collect and distribute holiday gifts for dozens of needy children. A German Festival will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 in Tenafly as the organization’s summer fundraiser. Giants of Generosity is also expanding its reach to residents in New York State and Pennsylvania, where it is assisting a man severely injured in a head-on collision.
