Follow on Google News | The Artist Inspired by Greek Mythology on The WrighterThe Wrighter features French artist, Erika Meriaux, the blog’s 12th artist in its tribute series.
By: Selah Haki “My interest was aroused by visiting museums in France where interpretations of classic myths appear throughout the artwork of many old masters.” Meriaux explains, as she touches on why she is inspired by Greek myths. “All the details of human nature and the human condition are enclosed in its stories; it gives artists the opportunity to explore a large field of subjects while at the same time enabling them to keep their focus on a unique body of work.” This tribute to “The Scream” was created in May, after the record breaking auction, featuring two artists per week. Meriaux is the twelfth artist featured in the series and shares images of some of her favorite work. When asked about a favorite work of hers, she replied, “Deciding which paintings are my favorite might vary with my mood or with the things I have experienced. Sometimes it might be a technical challenge I had to overcome, or just the pleasure I felt in making it. Making art is also a way to entertain myself.” Wright, creator, contributor and editor of The Wrighter, is a California native who earned her BA degree in Journalism from the California State University, Fullerton. She has created several art series, including, “Fractured,” Wright has written several books, including, “50” and “A Crime And A Simplification Of Something Sublime,” the latter includes several of her sketches. She is also an actress who has performed in theater productions, independent films and commercials.
