Soft drinks, beer or wine – Calorie traps in a glass

Calorie traps are lurking everywhere. During a quick snack in between or while eating a big meal – for the dream weight’s sake, calorie-conscious people pay special attention to the content of their food.

June 28, 2012 - PRLog -- But not only does eating put a spoke on the diet’s wheel, beverages also increase our calorie count almost without us noticing it. Those who always get a soft drink to quench their thirst, rarely go without their evening beer, or cannot resist a delicious cocktail, will gain some extra pounds, even with a well-balanced diet plan. The impact of beverages on weight is often underestimated. But a greater awareness of calories helps to avoid those silent calorie traps and to reach the individual dream weight.

Juices and soft drinks – Refreshing, but rich in calories

Especially on hot summer days, the refreshing and fruity taste of soda is very popular. But with high sugar content and 50 kcal per 3.5 fl. oz., the cool drinks fail to support the dream weight. Not surprisingly, the “sugar bombs” coke and sprite are leading the calorie table. Depending on the manufacturer, up to 60 kcal per 3.5 fl. oz. can strain the figure. Fruit juice also demands caution. Grape juice, with 70 to 80 kcal per 3.5 fl. oz., or the popular orange and apple juices, with approximately 50 kcal, are no lightweights either. Those who still want to enjoy the pure taste of juice without watering it down, rather choose to drink the low-calorie alternative grapefruit juice or the vegetable-variations carrot and tomato juice, which contain less than 25 kcal per 3.5 fl. oz. But it is not necessary to miss out on important vitamins from fruits and vegetables just to cut calories. Freshly-squeezed juices as well as an apple, eaten purely, are also delicious and refreshing, maybe even more than the beverages from the supermarket.

Beer, wine, cocktails – Party drinks with calorie guarantee

Despite the relatively high calorie content of non-alcoholic refreshments, the heavy weights among the drinkable calorie traps are found mainly in the alcohol section. While spending a nice evening in a restaurant or bar, most people do not count their beers. However, 9 fl. oz. of beer contains about 110 kcal; without the alcohol, you save approximately 40 kcal. Wine is another popular companion during nights out. But not only does the blood alcohol level rise with every glass; the calorie count also steadily increases. 7 fl. oz. of red wine has 150 kcal, white wine is even providing 160 kcal. Mixing with water alleviates the calorie content.
Alcoholic beverages with a particularly high amount of calories are cocktails. Colourful and delicious, often decorated with fruits, these tasty calorie bombs among beverages belong to every party. Whether creamy, fruity, alcoholic or non-alcoholic – there are numerous varieties, each with more calories than the next. Depending on ingredients and mixture, cocktail fans have to expect up to 150 kcal per 3.5 fl. oz. Regular cocktail consumption will be a serious obstacle for the dream figure.

A healthy and calorie-conscious lifestyle with the CaloriScan

Whether eating or drinking, during daily life or on special occasions – being aware of calories helps to maintain the slim summer figure and supports a healthy lifestyle. A well-balanced weight management considers both calorie intake and calories burned. Calorie counters available on the market, such as the CaloriScan from Omron, are a valuable means of support on that path. Since it precisely measures the amount of calories burned 24 hours a day, the handy calorie counter should be at your side while drinking cocktails or working out. Whether at the desk, in the pub or while jogging – thanks to its 3-D sensor technology, the CaloriScan classifies different activities and reliably calculates the resulting calorie consumptions. Thereby, users can keep track of their individual data and quickly know if their upcoming cocktail night should be postponed.
