Free training sessions on offer for Havebury tenants

Finding a new home and avoiding the pitfalls of modern living are two topics to be covered through free training sessions from affordable housing provider Havebury.

June 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Tenants of Havebury’s 6,000 homes in West Suffolk and parts of Cambridgeshire are invited to attend the courses in August and September.

Chief Executive Karen Mayhew explained that the first course will be Homelink - How to Bid for a Home.  “Homelink is a service run by St Edmundsbury Borough Council that lets you “bid” on a property if you want to move,” she said.

“The course will offer practical help and advice from the team that runs the service, teaching participants how the grading bands work and what they need to do to bid for a new property.”

Homelink - How to Bid for a Home will be held on Tuesday, August 7 between 2pm and 4pm at Havebury’s offices in Western Way, Bury St Edmunds.  A second session will take place on Thursday, September 13 from 2pm to 4pm at Haverhill Rovers, on Chalkstone Way.

Meanwhile, Understanding Digital Technologies is a workshop looking at modern equipment such as ATMs, mobile phones, the internet and digital television.  Participants will learn how they can protect their identity online and how to avoid the other potential pitfalls of using modern technology.  The first workshop is being held on Tuesday, August 14 from 2pm to 4pm at Bury St Edmunds, with a second on Thursday, August 23 from 10am to 12pm in Haverhill.

Mrs Mayhew said: “Our third course is called How to Spot a Scam.  This is a practical session run by the Citizens’ Advice Bureau which identifies the latest scams and teaches you how to spot them.”

How to Spot a Scam is being held on Tuesday, September 4 from 10.30am to 11.30am at The Kiln Café at the Malthouse Project in Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds.

Mrs Mayhew added: “We are firmly committed to providing as much training as possible for our tenants, to ensure that they are not made vulnerable by unscrupulous characters and to highlight the different property options available to them.”

A charity and not-for-profit association, Havebury is dedicated to serving both the existing and future housing needs of people in West Suffolk and parts of Cambridgeshire.
