Bet on the Farm – Farmers Market at the Springs Preserve
Join us for Mario Batali & Joe Bastianich’s truly sustainable farmers market, Bet on the Farm, every Thursday at the Springs Preserve. Seasonal offerings, regionally and locally grown include fruits, vegetables, herbs, fresh eggs, honey, nuts, dates, locally roasted coffee, and many more delectable treats. Every Thursday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. *Time is subject to availability - farmers may sell out early. Access to the market inside the Desert Living Center is free. Purchases are cash only.

Toddler Time
Bring your little ones for kid-friendly activities and stories—new themes weekly! It’s a perfect time for family fun before or after you shop at our Thursday Farmers Market. Ages 5-under recommended. 11-11:30 a.m. Thursdays in the Activity Center. July 5 – Storytime Fun.  July 12 – Cicada Sounds. July 19 – Sand Art. July 26 – Animal Moves. Free for members or with general admission (GA).

Bike Rentals on the Exploration Loop Trail
Let the good times roll as you rent bikes and wheel on down our 2.2 mile Exploration Loop Trail! Keep your eyes open for birds, wildlife and breathtaking views as you follow in the path of adventurous explorers and ancient peoples drawn to the artesian waters of the spring. Weekends and holidays, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. or dusk, whichever comes first. Bike rental is $6 members/ $8 nonmembers per hour, includes helmet. Child carrier rentals are available. Personal bikes are not permitted on the Trails.

Summer Adventure Camps
NEW activities weekly: nature, archaeology, animals, plants, history, drama, crafts, even swimming at the nearby Y. Education experts lead the fun, so skip day care and explore 180 acres of summer adventure! Presented in partnership with Drama Kids International and the YMCA. Ages 6-12, New sessions weekly, Mondays-Fridays through Aug. 24, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily* $180 members, $200 non-members per week *Extended after-hours care available 6:30 a.m. - 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.  -6:30 p.m. for an additional $25/week.

EXHIBITS, SHOWS AND DEMONSTRATIONS

Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program, 1942-1964
This moving exhibit explores the lives and times of Bracero workers and their families providing rich insights into the Mexican-American experience—and a historical bridge to modern guest-worker debates. Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program 1942-1964 was developed by the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History and circulated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. This exhibition received federal support from the Latino Initiatives Pool, administered by the Smithsonian Latino Center. Exhibit on display daily through July 29, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily in the Origen Museum. Free for members or included with GA.

Trash to Treasure – The Sculptures of Dave Thompson
Artist Dave Thompson transforms old metal into magic. His recycled-object sculptures fill the Gardens with wonder and whimsy. Take a stroll and see what hidden treasures await! Exhibit on display in the Gardens through September 9, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily. Access to this exhibit is free.

Envenomators: The Venomous Snakes of North America
Take a bite out of summer! Slither over and explore this exhibit revealing the surprising secret lives of beautiful and venomous snakes whose reputations are based more on fear than fact. Envenomators tells the story of four venomous snakes indigenous to North America: Copperhead, Cottonmouth, Coral and Rattlesnake. Exhibit created by Wonderworks Exhibit Company. Exhibit on display daily through September 16, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Free for members or included with GA.

VENOM! - Live animal show
Deadly fangs! Menacing rattles! Crushing jaws! Challenge your curiosity and fears during this live show with some of Nevada’s most toxic—and awe-inspiring—reptiles. Learn how and why slitherers and crawlers such as Western diamondbacks, Mojave sidewinders, Great Basin rattlesnakes, Speckled rattlesnakes, Desert night snakes, and Gila monsters use their venom. Back by popular demand! Two live indoor shows daily through July 15 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Free for members or included with GA.

Jeff Corwin Experience: Snake Anti-Venom – Feature Film
Don’t miss Jeff Corwin Experience: Snake Anti-Venom (30 min.), as the famed Animal Planet host takes you on a trip to Mexico. Learn how captured snakes are milked for their venom—used to produce snake-bite serum. Daily at 12, 2 and 4 p.m. Free for members or included with GA.

BUGS! - Live animal show
They crawl. They sting. They hiss. And we run! Get up close (or not!) as our audience-participation show reveals the mysteries of the Mojave’s most amazing insects, arachnids and other invertebrates. Two live indoor shows daily July 15 – August 31 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Free for members or included with GA.

WEEKEND CLASSES, ACTIVITIES, WORKSHOPS AND TOURS

Nature Print Bags
Use natural objects and paint to make colorful stamps on bags. 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. daily throughout July. Members: $2.00. Non-members: GA + $3.00.

Fuzzy Caterpillars
Make a caterpillar, take it home and help it grow fuzzy! 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. daily throughout July. Members: $2.00. Non-members: GA + $3.00.

Shell Wind Chimes
Craft a one-of-a-kind shell wind chime for your gardens. 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. daily throughout July. Members: $2.00. Non-members: GA + $3.00.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour
Get up close to lizards, bugs and snakes with zoologists in the animal care area. Saturdays and Sundays, 2 p.m. throughout July. Members: $3.00. Non-members: GA + $5.00.

Gardens Guided Walk
Join our experts for a free, guided walk through our beautiful botanical gardens. Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. throughout July. Guided walk is free for members and included with GA. Ask about our new weekend grilling, gardening and photography workshops in the Gardens!

Cicada Safari
Buzz, buzz, BUZZZZZ! Why are cicadas so loud? Kids, learn about these interesting insects as we explore on a cicada safari hunt! Saturdays and Sundays 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. throughout July. Members: $3.00. Non-members: GA + $5.00.

Creative Workshops
Bring your creative visions to life—our experts supply the know-how and materials, you supply the imagination! Your home and garden will be all the brighter as you take home mosaic crafts—inspired by our beautiful botanical Gardens. First Saturday of each month, 10:00 a.m. – noon. July 7– Mosaic Basics– Create and take home a ceramic tile mosaic wall plaque as you learn about different types of materials, fixatives and tools. Handouts will help you make more mosaics at home, if you choose. Members: $20.00, non-members: $30.00 per workshop.

Gardens Workshops
Learn the joys and rewards of desert gardening from the best in the business-our horticulturists! We repeat each workshop so attend on the day that’s best for you. Second and fourth Saturday and Sunday of each month, 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. July 14 - 15: Animals in Your Garden– Learn how to transform your backyard into a miniature wildlife refuge, attracting many different kinds of wild animals. July 28 - 29: Shady Characters in the Garden – Finding sensational plants for shady landscape areas is a challenge many homeowners face. Learn how to select suitable specimens that thrive in your shady zones—saving you time, money and outdoor labor. Members $10.00, non-members: $15.00 per workshop.


Cooking Workshops

“Summer Fare: Fresh and Refreshing” will be your new mantra! Join us for fresh and fun cooking workshops, presented by professional chefs from the Springs Cafe, operated by the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas.
Third Saturday of each month, 10:00 a.m. – noon. July 17: Salads - Learn to create fruit salads with a fresh spin, as well as panzanella—a classic, Tuscan-style tomato and bread salad. $30 members, $40 non-members per workshop. Member bonus: $75 all 3 three workshops purchased together.
