Laughter yoga program comes to Dunwoody

June 25, 2012 - PRLog -- DUNWOODY, Ga.– Plantation South Dunwoody, a senior living residential and memory care community in Dunwoody, will host nationally recognized motivation speaker Craig Whitley for an evening of laughing yoga for residents, residents’ families and the community. Whitley’s program focuses on the impact positive thinking and exercise can have on depression and health.

“Research shows that both exercise and laughing can have a significant impact on the physical and mental health of seniors,” explains Yonnie Stevens, executive director at Plantation South Dunwoody. “When considering how to engage the seniors in our lives in exercise plans, we often rule out the power of non-traditional offerings like yoga or gardening. Whitley’s approach, combining a non-traditional exercise method like yoga with laughing, proves that exercise can be a release for seniors and make for a happier, healthier individual.”

Laughter yoga originated in India, when a physician who was motivated by the proven health benefits of laughter, created the first Laughter Club in 1995. The program is now in more than 60 countries.

Craig Whitley, a certified Laughter Yoga leader, hypnotherapist and co-owner of Blue Skies Counseling, Coaching and Hypnosis, Inc. in Woodstock, Ga., will be sharing his laughter yoga program at Plantation South Dunwoody on July 26, 2012. Featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Whitley’s 90 minute program includes an interactive yoga class.
