June 24, 2012 - PRLog -- Big Brothers Big Sisters would like to invite North Texas to an intimate evening with four-time Grammy Award nominated Singer-Songwriter Jewel at its 2012 Big Black Tie Ball. The event will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Omni Dallas Hotel. In addition to Jewel’s 55-minute acoustic set, the Gala will also include a cocktail reception and dinner, as well as a silent and live auction.

“We are honored to have such an accomplished musician perform exclusively at our Gala event,” says Brian Walker, Chair of the Big Black Tie Ball. “But the fact that she is also an advocate for Big Brothers Big Sisters will make this evening so much more meaningful. We invite all of Dallas-Fort Worth to come celebrate our local children who embody the hope and inspiration of thousands more who want a mentor in their life. ”

A committed supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Jewel credits her own mentors for positively impacting her path. Both she and her husband Rodeo Champion Ty Murray serve as Texas spokespeople for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and they both understand how the power of mentoring can truly change children’s lives. Visit youtube.com/bbbstxchannel to hear their message about the value of mentoring.

Guests will have an opportunity to view a gallery of art created by children that participate in Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as bid on a one-of-a-kind sculpture created by several ‘Littles’ earlier this month under the supervision of the event’s Featured Artist Lezlee Liljenberg.

“Both the Gala and the masterpieces on display that evening will celebrate the children who have transformed themselves into great works of art with the help of a mentor,” says Lezlee Liljenberg. “It has been life-changing to serve as this year’s Featured Artist and help these children achieve their vision of success through art.”

The funds raised will directly benefit the more than 4,000 children currently waiting for a Big Brother or a Big Sister. Each $500 raised will remove one child from our waiting list and match them to a mentor who will provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

This event is open to the public and sponsorship opportunities are available. Individual tickets are $350 and couples tickets are $500. A limited number of VIP meet & greet tickets are still available. Please visit bbbstx.org/bigblacktieball or contact 888.887.BIGS to purchase tickets or for more event information. Sponsors of the 2012 Big Black Tie Ball include CBS 11, TXA 21, Coca-Cola, UPS, Rent-A-Center and FastSigns.

Lezlee Martin Liljenberg is a metal artist and the owner of Curves of Steel Studio in Arlington. Her art varies from contemporary to eclectic and rustic to ornate. By varying her styles and designs and experimenting with various chemicals and metals, Lezlee is able to provide new and exciting works for all tastes, interests and budgets. Utilizing recycled items is one of her favorite activities, and she loves her “digging” expeditions for old and new parts which use uses to bring to life many of her whimsical creations. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a donor-supported youth mentoring organization that places caring adults in the lives of children in one-to-one mentoring relationships. Through the positive impact of those friendships, children with a Big Brother or Big Sister are more likely to graduate from high school and less likely to begin using drugs, begin using alcohol or engage in negative behavior.
