June 23, 2012 - PRLog -- One of the biggest phone launches of 2012 is undoubtedly the Samsung Galaxy S3, a device that is stepping into the shoes of the globally popular Galaxy S2.  A key feature on this new phone is the Music Hub service that it offers so we see how this service stands up against the popular iTunes software used by the iPhone 4S.

Perhaps the best place to begin when comparing two services such as these is with the amount of music that they actually offer the user.  At this moment in time iTunes is slightly ahead of Samsung with the service offering access to over 20 million tracks.  It is worth considering however that iTunes is an established while the Music Hub used by the Samsung Galaxy S3 is only a few month old.  Despite this it still has over 19 million tracks in its catalogue with the number expected to grow and eclipse iTunes and other platforms such as Spotify.  Both of these services gives users access to a free version and also a premium account that attracts a subscription fee.  The iTunes Match service costs user £21.99 per year and enables entire music collections to be scanned and matched with tracks offered by iTunes.  Any tracks that cannot be matched are also uploaded to 25GB of iCloud storage space.  A big advantage of this service is that it enables users to access their music collection via the iCloud from anywhere in the world with a device that uses iTunes.

The Music Hub service that is featured on the new Samsung Galaxy S3 charges user £9.99 a month for its premium services but it does offer much more functionality than the iTunes service.  Like it rival Music Hub enable the user music collection to be scanned and matched up with items in the Music Hub catalogue.  We found that most items were easily recognised and ones that were not were stored in 100GB of cloud storage.  Where we found this service most impressive however was with the streaming services that it offers users.  Any of the 19 million songs featured can be streamed directly to the S3 or even stored on the device to be listened to offline.  These streaming facilities but the Music Hub ahead of iTunes although it is expected that Apple will launch a similar facility over the coming months.

The new Samsung Galaxy S3 is a superb smartphone and the Music Hub is just one impressive aspect of this excellent new phone.  Although this service offers a slightly smaller catalogue than iTunes the functionality it offers is superior to its rival.
