Fortna and Genesco Celebrate the 10-Year Anniversary of Opening their Tennessee Distribution Center
Genesco and Fortna recently celebrated 10 years of success and partnership that started with the design and building of Genesco’s Lebanon, TN distribution center, a 320,000-square-foot facility serving Genesco’s multiple distribution channels.
Back at the turn of the millennia, Genesco’s store and SKU count growth necessitated a new distribution center to replace their outgrown and aging facility in Nashville. Fortna was engaged to design the new building and used their FortnaDCmodeler®
The new facility allowed Genesco to service their multiple distribution channels from one site and significantly increased capacity and service metrics while providing a flexible platform for achieving dynamic growth goals over the next decade. The new Tennessee DC also accommodated strong volume and SKU growth while decreasing cost-per-unit metrics, increasing order accuracy, shortening order cycle time and increasing throughput for their highly seasonal business.
“We began shipping from this facility on June 3, 2002, and now in June of 2012 we are getting ready to ship a record back-to-school season,” said Nancy Harris, Manager Warehouse Systems at Genesco. “Fortna has been a valued partner in our success; they've been with us from the start, and we continue to enjoy a partnership that we feel will carry us on into the future,” she continued.

Genesco’s Tennessee-based associates and many of its vendors and suppliers celebrated the tenth anniversary of the facility on June 12 with a cookout and awards ceremony at the distribution center near Nashville.
