By: King Edward's School, Bath Ellie Cumpsty departs on Thursday 21st June for Australia to represent Great Britain in the World Laser Radial Youth Championships in Brisbane, Australia, between the 27th June to the 4th July. Ellie was selected for the RYA Volvo Laser Radial National Youth Squad after finishing first in the Laser 4.7 Class in the 2012 RYA Eric Twinham Championships, which took place at Rutland Water during May this year. Ellie Cumpsty is one of just eighteen youngsters in the UK to have been selected for the Royal Yacht Association's National Youth Squad. At just fifteen Ellie is one of the youngest to be selected for the presitgious Royal Yacht Association's National Youth Squad (U18s). With only eighteen place available in the squad, six of which are for girls, standards for qualifying are extremely high and competition is fierce. As a result it is more usual for older teenagers, who have more sailing experience, to be selected. Director of Sport, Louisa Gwilliam, commented: "King Edward’s School wishes Ellie Cumpsty every success in the World Laser Radial Youth Championships in Australia. Ellie is fully commited to sailing, works incredibly hard and thoroughly deserves her success. We wish her well in future events."
