By: Aressana Spa Hotel and Suites When the Aressana Spa Hotel and Suites was recommended to Michael Gavshon as the place to stay on the island of Santorini, little did he know that this boutique property would surpass all of his expectations. In making the documentary about Herbert Nisch, the legendary ‘deepest man on earth’ who planned to break his personal record for free deep sea diving on one single breath on June the 6th of this year on the island of Santorini, the CBS team contacted the property regarding all the necessary accommodation arrangements. The whole team was stunned by the warm attention expressed by all the staff and their honest attempts to make sure that the shooting of the documentary went as smoothly as possible. After hours of hard work all the CBS team had the opportunity to relax and get into the secrets of authentic Santorinian gastronomy. In their sincere praise of the Aressana, Michale Gavshon wrote in the hotel guest book: “No words can describe just how wonderful our stay has been”. Members of the team were also absolutely stunned by other merits of the Aressana; namely the food. The winning award for Best Greek Breakfast by ‘Aegean Cuisine’ inspired the hotel to share its knowledge. Mrs. Evangelia Mendrinou involved all from Bob Simon, to Michael Gavshon and all the CBS team in tasting and cooking lessons finding the best way to introduce them to amazing local flavors and wine aromas. As a result the whole team renewed their meeting in November 2012, to New York this time, to visit the “Loi” restaurant, owned by the famous Greek cook Maria Loi, a dear friend of Evangelia’s. As for Herbert Nisch’s attempt to break the record, it was completed successfully as he reached in depth of 244m (800ft). Accompanied by a team of safety divers, medics and film crew, the record was reached. However, due to suffering from disorientation after the dive, Mr. Nisch was flown to the Naval Hospital in Athens for decompression treatment, all routine in attempting feats of this magnitude. It was an amazing experience for all the CBS team and Aressana Spa Hotel and Suites that constitutes always a great representative of authentic Greek Hospitality. After all, Bob Simon on his way out wrote: “I have been to Greece many times – in good times and bad times. Your hospitality made this the best time.
