Real action brought together 15 countries in Rio yesterday

June 21, 2012 - PRLog -- The World Cleanup Rio+20 action combined the efforts of local communities and Rio+20 delegates to create immediate results on spot and to send out a simple message to the whole world – Let’s act now!

More than 120 volunteers formed teams to clean up waste, going from hilltop to the bottom of the Atlantic. Cleanup participants focused their attention to the Parque Garota de Ipanema, the Arpoador rock and also to Diabo and Arpoador Beaches. The cleanup also touched water – by stand-up paddlers gathering the waste from the surface and local diving community cleaning up trash underwater from the reefs and rocks around Arpoador.

“We are organizing this cleanup to send a message to the whole world that in global issues there are no borders and we need to start real action right now, involving all communities on Earth,” said the Let’s Do It! movement initiator  Rainer Nõlvak. The volunteers participating in the cleanup were coming Brasil, Australia, Portugal, Austria, Estonia, USA, New Zealand, Italy, South-Korea, Thailand, Lithuania, Sweden, Iran, Canada and Venezuela.
