June 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Lees Road Sports & Amenity Park provides a range of facilities and recreational opportunities for the people of Ennis and County Clare. The addition of the Active Trail equipment will supplement and enhance the facilities already available in the park.

The outdoor equipment will incorporate exercise activities for all abilities.  It can be used to aid rehabilitation from injury or ill health, as well as enhance personal fitness levels.

Crawford Contracts Group Ltd will carry out the works, which are being funded by Ennis Town Council and the National Lottery and the Department of Transport and Sport. Works have commenced and will be completed by the end of June.

Mayor of Ennis Cllr. Peter Considine said: “This Active Trail Equipment will enhance the recreational opportunities for children, youths and adults in the community.  I am sure that many hours of fun, enjoyment and entertainment will be had by all users of this equipment”.

“The importance of exercise for all age groups cannot be emphasised enough and this Active Trail equipment ensures that the more mature child also benefits from regular activity,” commented Ennis Town Clerk Mr. Leonard Cleary.

He continued: “Lees Road Sports & Amenity Park is a very worthwhile asset for the whole community.  It is a major asset for Ennis, and the response from the public and sporting organisations is very positive.  It is conveniently located close to a centre of population and the multiplicity of sporting uses has proven to very popular”.

The Lees Road Sports and Amenity Park, which is located on a site of approximately 134 acres of woodland at Drumcliffe, also comprises four conventional playing pitches, a floodlit all-weather pitch, a cross country running track, woodland amenity walks and Clare’s first specifically designed and purpose built Skateboard Park.
