By: King Edward's School, Bath The culmination of all Year 6’s hard work raising money for charity came to a climax on Friday 15th June at the Dragon’s Den Fair. Earlier in the Summer Term, Year 6 worked in teams to develop ideas for a business they could run at the Dragon’s Den Fair and then pitched their ideas to a panel of business ‘Dragons’. Those ideas approved by the ‘Dragons’ were further developed and put into action at the Dragon’s Den Fair. The acid test of success would be judged by their fellow pupils from other year groups and children from Year 2 at King Edward’s Pre-Prep who came to the fair. The teams had to encourage children to take part in their activities and/or to sample their refreshments in order to raise money for charity. Year 6 worked really hard organising their activity and learnt a lot about what it takes to run a successful business. Mr Matt Innes, Director of Studies at King Edward’s Junior School, commented, “Being responsible for every aspect of the business and working in teams gives pupils a genuine insight into how businesses operate. As there were a number of separate business teams involved in the project it also gave them an understanding of competition. Pupils learn so much from this experience and their ideas are very exciting.” The Dragons’ Den project was developed to help Year 6 pupils gain an appreciation of business, organisation and working in a team.
