The National Latina Business Women Association “Honoring Latinas in Business Awards” Showcases Latinas-- the Fastest Growing Segment of Business Owners Across the Country

Los Angeles CA, June 8, 2012- Latina entrepreneurs are opening new businesses in record numbers, creating jobs and excelling in industries historically dominated by males. The National Latina Business Women Association, Los Angeles Chapter (NLBWA-LA) celebrates the successes of Latina business women in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area during the 9-th Annual “Honoring Latinas in Business Awards” on Thursday, June 28th, 2012 from 5:30-10:00 p.m., at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences the Leonard H. Goldenson Theater, 5220 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood CA.  The nominees have demonstrated financial success and a commitment to the advancement of the Latino community.

This year’s honorees: Corporate Leader of the Year, Marcela Bailey, VP & Divisional CIO Sony Pictures; Business Woman of the Year, Rosalba Warschaw, Corporate Secretary, Ramcast and Inspirational Leader, Celia de la Torre, Folklorico Institute Company.  In addition to 14 nominees in seven categories: Arts, Business Service, Construction, Food Services, Healthcare, Law and Public Relations.

One in 10 women-owned businesses across the country is owned by Hispanic women. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Latinas are the fastest growing small business owners in the U.S with growth rate of 114 % over the last five years, generating revenues of nearly $62 billion as of 2008. (Center for Business Women’s Research).  California leads the way with more than 210,000 Hispanic women owned firms.  
                                                           
“While large corporations are downsizing, we are seeing more and more Latinas reinventing themselves, launching businesses that are creating new jobs and helping to reenergize communities all across Los Angeles,”  said Ana Perez, President of NLBWA-LA.

“Thanks to the generosity of our corporate partners we are able to provide diverse programs throughout the year that enable us to promote the rapid growth of Latinas in the business sector”.  “The NLWBA-LA Awards is an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of Latina entrepreneurs, corporate executives and professionals,” added Perez.  “The judges have a difficult task at hand, each one of the
nominees is a winner for having overcome personal challenges and triumphs that have made them stronger business leaders.  Their success is not only tied to business, these remarkable women have demonstrated a commitment to their communities through personal contributions, dedication and participation.”
