Balancing Work and Family with Mompreneur Rossel Velasco-Taberna

June 18, 2012 - PRLog -- Being able to juggle so many things at the same time is no easy task, more so if you happen to be a working mom like Rossel Velasco-Taberna or a “Mompreneur” as she prefers to describe herself.

The wife of celebrated radio and television broadcaster Anthony Taberna and mother of two growing daughters also happens to have her hands full with not just one but two businesses that demands her complete hands-on attention.

“I manage OutBox Media Production Agency, an events and multimedia outfit and I also run a concept salon, The Blounge. I go to work weekdays, and sometimes even weekends, if we have scheduled events.”

While managing both work and family can be a tricky balancing act, Rossel has been remarkably up to the task. “I can say that I balance my time well – I can still look after my kids while I manage our businesses,” she proudly beams. “I juggle my time by going home in-between meetings or, sometimes, I bring my kids to my work place.”

As much as Rossel wants to be a full-time mother, she said she has chosen to be a Mompreneur because she wants to give her children an extraordinary future.  Even though husband Anthony is doing pretty well on his own and can certainly provide for the family, Rossel believes that being a working mom gives her an extra sense of security while allowing her to save up for those unexpected rainy days.  

Despite her busy schedule, Rossel still sees to it that her precious quality time with her family is never compromised. This has also allowed her to fulfill her role as a mother as she personally oversees the growth and development of her daughters Zoey and Helga. “It reflects all my hard work in raising them as I constantly find ways to improve their capabilities by enrolling them in classes like swimming, speech, ballet and many more. Seeing them perform on-stage is priceless,” she enthuses.

She may make it sound and look easy but being a Mompreneur is actually no picnic as Rossel gives us a more detailed glimpse of her daily routine.

24/7 Mompreneur

“Everyday, I wake up at 4:00am to prepare my husband’s things for his 4:45am Umagang Kay Ganda program,” she begins. “After that, I check my email and list down my agenda for office and client meetings. At 6:30am, my kids will wake up and we will have breakfast together. I’ll leave the house by 7:30am and work from 8:00am to 5:00pm or even later if I have late client meetings. I also see to it that I would go to our salon, check on our staff and also entertain our regular clients each day.”

If the tight weekdays are more than enough to take their toll on this energetic Mompreneur, weekends are also pretty busy for the Taberna family as they prepare for that well-deserved rest and relaxation.
“Weekends for my husband and I are sacred,” Rossel admits. “We see to it that we spend it with our kids since we have a tight weekday work schedule.”

And spending time with the kids doesn’t mean just staying home and lazing on the couch watching TV all day. “During weekends, we usually go home to our provinces, either in Nueva Ecija or Calamba, Laguna to visit our families,” she adds. “We also love quick outings and our favorite getaway is Fontana Leisure Park where the kids never get tired of swimming. We also bring them to places like Manila Ocean Park where they can watch shows and see different animals.”

On other weekends, the Taberna family goes to the mall and brings the children to the playground or watches a movie, while Sunday is strictly a church day for them.

“Everyone attends the Sunday morning worship service and Zoey and Helga regularly attend the Children’s Worship Service, which is sometimes facilitated by their Daddy Tunying who happens to preach during the Children’s Worship Service in our locale,” she proudly reveals.
