CSA holds Second Annual Volunteer Day at Feeding America San Diego
Client Solution Architects LLC (CSA) Community Service Addicts – Volunteers (CSAV) a community outreach team established within CSA coordinated its 2nd annual volunteer day with Feeding America San Diego (FASD) on June 1.
CSAV was created in 2010 to act as a liaison between CSA employees and community philanthropy. CSA has been supporting the FASD program since CSAV’s inception and has supported the organization through food drives, volunteer support and direct donations.
CSAV’s Mission - CSAV is a group within CSA committed to giving back to our communities. We use our energies and resources for the betterment of others and continually seek out additional opportunities to support our local communities. We contribute in many ways, from giving our time, donating money and participating in fundraisers for the causes that are important to our friends, families and neighbors.
FASD gives 98 cents of every dollar to provide food for the hungry in San Diego. They provide 73,000 meals to children, families and seniors in need each week to help battle hunger. Last fiscal year, 16.4 million pounds of food were distributed to more than 440,000 food-insecure people in the San Diego community and since 2008 FASD has distributed 53 million pounds of nutritious food and fresh produce.
This year the west coast volunteer day supported the FASD’s Backpack Program. Across the country, teachers and school nurses have found that in some instances, Monday morning comes and they are forced to compete against hunger for the attention of their students. More than 18 million children qualify for free or reduced price meals through the National School Lunch Program, the fuel that they need to get them through the week. FASD’s 15-year-old Backpack Program helps these children get the nutritious and easy-to-prepare food they need over the course of the weekend. Today, bags of food assembled at more than 150 local food banks are distributed to nearly 230,000 children every year.
CSA’s team of volunteers assembled 2,634 backpacks and repackaged 680 pounds of beans to be distributed to local food-insecure children and families. “CSAV would like to extend a very warm thank you to all of the volunteers who sacrificed their time to make this event a success,” said Jennifer Gomez, CSAV member. “We are working hard to put together a diverse group of community outreach events in the near future and are looking forward to working with CSA’s awesome volunteers again!”
