Big J Books Announces Book Signing at Juneteenth Celebration

AN AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURAL EVENT

Author & Illustrator James C. Best, Jr. to Sign First Edition Copies of Children’s Picture Book Brave Little Dave

New York, NY  – Big J Books announces author and illustrator James C. Best, Jr. will sign first edition copies of his new children’s picture book Brave Little Dave at Bergen County’s Juneteenth Celebration, Saturday, June 16th. The event is free and will be held rain or shine at the new Overpeck Park (199 Challenger Rd, Ridgefield Park, NJ) from 10:00am – 6:00pm. The author will be available for interviews from 1:00pm - 2:00pm (EST).

Brave Little Dave, published by Big J Books, is a bright, fun and inspirational story that appeals to kids ages 3-12. Dave is a young boy with an adventurous heart who takes a detour that puts him face-to-face with a giant obstacle. Readers will shout for joy when Dave wins the battle in a whimsical tale that encourages kindness.

Big J Books will kick off its early literacy initiative with Brave Little Dave Brave Hearts Club. Young fans signing up for the club at the event will receive a special membership certificate.

The Board of Chosen Freeholders and the African American Advisory Committee organized this Juneteenth celebration, which this year is entitled, “Freedom, Unity and Black Women in American History and Culture.” The Bergen County Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument Committee also co-sponsored this event. There will be entertainment for visitors of all ages: carnival and pony rides for kids, historic lectures and cultural vendors for adults, and food and music for the entire family.

Juneteenth originated in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 when Major General Gordon Granger informed the people of that region that they were ‘free.’ The enslaved people were so joyful of this news that this historical celebration commenced and later became a national day of remembrance and celebration.
