June 11, 2012 - PRLog -- The undefeated San Diego Flash (8 – 2 – 0) return to action this weekend in what is arguably their biggest game of the season against San Diego Boca (3 – 3 – 4). Boca have proved somewhat of a ‘bogey team’ for the Flash over the past two seasons. Regardless of season records, they always rise to the challenge of playing their city rivals when participating in the San Diego Derby.

The San Diego Flash still remain eight points ahead of their nearest rivals in their National Premier Soccer League West-Southern Conference, after a 1-1 tie against FC Hasental over the weekend. This weekend, they are looking for three points to not only strengthen the hold on their own finals spot, but in the process also ending Boca’s post-season ambitions.

The city's biggest soccer match of the season kicks off at 7pm this Saturday June 16 at Balboa Stadium, 1405 Park Blvd, San Diego, 92101.

Head Coach Warren Barton, said that his team must be ready mentally for a hard fought game and not underestimate their opposition.

“I think that in the past the guys have gone into these matches expecting to win and have been surprised by the work rate of their opponents. On paper we should win this game comfortably, but Boca always rise to the occasion and come away with strong results.

“This time it’s more than just the three points, it’s about bragging rights. We don’t want to go through what has been a successful season, not defeating our local rivals.” Coach Barton said.

Flash CEO, Clent Alexander, echoed Barton’s words by saying that the game was fast becoming a regular season grand final for both clubs.

“Boca are one of only two teams to put a blemish on our clubs undefeated season by getting a 2 – 2 draw in the first meeting earlier this year.

“This should be the soccer match of the year for local San Diego soccer fans and I encourage the local community to come out in force and see the great local talent we have here in the region.” Alexander said.
