Some Insight on Fork Seals from Recon MX

Here is some insight on Replacement motorcycle Fork Seal Replacement by the expert Motorcycle Suspension Tech's at Recon MX located on the out skirts of Las Vegas, NV

June 11, 2012 - PRLog -- When it comes to fork Seal replacement the guy's at Recon MX stick with what works best for a replacement Fork Seal. It is always very important to inspect and replace the Fork Slider Bushing when showing wear or after the service time interval has expired. Fork Bushing's can be worn but it can be very hard to see with the human eye, refer to your manufactures owners manual.

Now we fix a lot of Fork Seals in the Las Vegas area for customers that have had other stops attempt to repair just to have the seals leak again after a few rides. Most the time we find that aftermarket Fork Seals have been installed. Aftermarket Fork Seals seem to be hit and miss when being used. Muddy conditions are a Fork Seal Nightmare, remember a Fork Seal is Designed to wipe the fork oil up the Fork Tube and retina the fluid in the fork. When something clings or sticks to the fork then there is extra effort needed by the fork seal to push the material off the tube with the fork dust seal. What ever does not get pushed off by the fork dust seal then gets in the oil seal and then eventually mixes with the fork fluid. The fork oil seal can only perform this action so many times before wearing and eventually leaking.

Crashing and twisting the front end will also cause fork seals to leak if you not correct the front fork alignment and continue to ride your motorcycle with the front forks twisted.

Motorcycle suspension in the Las Vegas area seems to last a very long time once serviced correctly. We have dusty dry conditions and these conditions do little harm on fork seals and allows fork seals last a very long time. In this scenario you have to pay attention to your service time intervals for Fork and Shock services, most of the time customers only fix whats broken and if their fork and shock seals are not leaking than they usually believe that everything is fine.

The Motorcycle Suspension Tech's at Recon MX use these guidelines when replacing motorcycle fork seals:

1. Use the best Fork Seals Available. These are mostly OEM fork seals manufactured by NOK.

2. Use a reputable shop for installation of forks seal who will stand behind their work.

3. Install the front forks on your motorcycle properly and be sure they dont bind when going thru the stroke.

3. Clean the fork Dust seal after every ride. This will reduce any dirt from packing up behind the fork dust seal.

4. Apply Suspension Grease to the Fork Dust seal and inner tube periodically to reduce seal stiction.
