June 7, 2012 - PRLog -- For many people, the Tibetan Cultural Pageant is one way to experience another culture and learn why it is an important part of life for the people of Tibet.  The Sacred Arts Tour that comes to Chapel Hill, is able to bring this pageant and performances that give a glimpse of the different type of music and dance that has been preserved for over 500 years.  About every 3 to 4 years, the Drepung Gomang Monastery is able to send a chantmaster, who is also an accomplished and talented multiphonic throatsinger.  This musical ability takes both talent and discipline to master and only a few people become true virtuosos.

For those who are able to attend the pageant, they will be seeing performances of debate as it is practiced in the monastery, as well as the Snow Lion Dance and Yak Dance.  And they will be able to hear familiar chants, like the chanting of Chod as well as some special performances of throat singing by the chantmaster.

There will be many photo opportunities for the press and the monks will be available for interview at the Arts Center from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm on the day of the performance.
