University College Falmouth’s intensive five-day Life Writing course will introduce you to ways of drawing on life experiences and how to write - whether you would like to write a story about your family history, your own life experiences, a biography or are considering ghost writing, telling someone else’s life story. If you’ve spent time tracing your family’s history and uncovering mysteries, secrets, laugh-out-loud moments, joys, tragedies, heroism or simple tales of everyday life from the past…you can turn painstaking research into book for the public and your family to enjoy. If you’ve led a fascinating life that can inspiration for others or just a jolly good yarn, this course can help you shape the narrative. Whether you want to write a family blog, a book, a scrapbook memoir or a simple document to pass among your relatives, this course will work for you. The course will show you how to: • piece information into a coherent narrative • use techniques to recover memory of past events • explore the ethics of writing down personal stories • create a sense of time and place • draw from out of the elements of your stories that will make them compelling to a wider audience • structure • describe events, places and things. You don’t have to have to be an experienced writer. Falmouth’s Life Writing short course is designed to be appropriate for all levels of education and writing abilities. The course will be taught as a series of hands-on workshops, with students given individual and group assignments encouraging them to practise the skills introduced. It is led by experienced life writing tutor, award-winning radio, TV and stage writer and producer Paul Dodgson, who has successfully taught several short courses at Falmouth. ]Fee: £380 per person. His writing credits include episodes of EastEnders, the highly acclaimed series Betjeman's Women for BBC Radio Four and Ivan and the Dogs, which won the Tinniswood Award for Best Radio Play 2010.
