Advance LA is pleased to announce its newest program, the 2012 Summer College Institute.

The Summer College Institute offers young adults an independent living experience on a college campus. The weeklong program will be filled with engaging activities and new friends in an environment where participants can learn and practice the skills necessary to be successful in college and/or career pursuits.

Situated in the picturesque Santa Monica Mountains, the Summer College Institute will take place on the campus of American Jewish University and offers both a residential and day option. Residents will stay in college dorms for the full experience of college life while day participants will attend from 10am to 6pm each day.

The Advance LA Summer College Institute is open to young people preparing for transition to college or those already enrolled who need additional skill building or support.  The individualized program serves participants with a wide variety of needs and diagnoses including: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, executive functioning difficulties, and other learning differences.

Highlights of the program include: Stress-management techniques, development and strengthening of executive functioning skills, organization, time management, communication and self-advocacy skills, and the opportunity to make new friends.

Advance LA, an innovative program of The Help Group, provides individualized support services including one-on-one life skills coaching and workshops for teens and young adults facing unique challenges in their transition to independence. The Summer College Institute will be led by Amy Griffiths, PhD, Director of Advance LA; Rachel Round, MA, Program Coordinator of Advance LA; and Janlyn Underwood, MFT, a professional college and career counselor at The Help Group.
