Senator Rob Portman Discusses Israeli High Tech Innovation Initiative with CEO of MS Tech

Senator Portman, who visited Israel to meet with Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Barak, met with technology innovation company MS Tech to learn about new sensors that can revolutionize screening and inspection capabilities in homeland security.
Senator Portman viewed the MS Tech sensors which were developed in collaboration with the Weizmann Institute of Science and learned how they can be used at point-of-inspection to detect a wide range of explosive materials, narcotics and contraband

MS Tech was represented by the company’s CEO, Doron Shalom. Shalom demonstrated MS Tech’s hand held device that can rapidly be used by any border guard, TSA agent or soldier to check people, vehicles and packages, to immediately identify potential threats.

Portman was told that MS Tech's sensors exploit a unique characteristic of high-frequency quartz crystals that are coated with selective nano-coatings. "The tiny sensors arrayed on a chip can be used for chemical detection and in many other applications," Shalom told Senator Portman. Among these uses are sensors for explosives, food borne diseases, and even the possibility of detecting bio-markers associated with diseases such as lung cancer," Shalom explained.

Senator Portman and Shalom discussed bringing MS Tech's sensor technologies to Ohio, the Senator's home state. "We are ready, willing and able" said Shalom, "and we see Ohio as a state leading in the area of innovation, very much like Israel."
