June 5, 2012 - PRLog -- One of the best astronomical viewing points in New York City is the rooftop observatory atop the Solaria Riverdale, and tonight there is something amazing to see. Shortly after 6:00pm a small dark dot will move across the face of the Sun, an eclipse that comes only twice every century. Known as the Transit of Venus, the next one will not take place until the year 2117.

Whatever the forecast, which is for some clouds and possible rain, this event will be a show to remember. It occurs when the orbits of Venus, Earth and the Sun put them into alignment along the same plane. Observers are cautioned that watching it with the naked eye can be dangerous, but alternative real time viewing options make it dramatic and historic.

“When we included our unique Meade observatory in the development plans for Solaria Riverdale, we expected that there would be some sights that would eclipse the beauty of our building, and this is one of those special events,” said Joseph Korff, developer of the luxury condominium.

The transit of Venus, can be seen from the Solaria Riverdale rooftop telescope and observatory, looking West beginning at 6:00pm and will be visible until sundown, at 8:24pm.
