The King of Cowboy Towns, Sheridan, Wyoming, invites all ages to the 82nd Annual Sheridan WYO Rodeo. From July 6-15, 2012 this historic town will welcome more than 500 professional cowboys and cowgirls as well as thousands of excited spectators. WYO Rodeo week is filled with fun and entertainment from the popular Boot Kick Off festivities and nightly performances to the closing Tailgate Party and polo match.

The Sheridan WYO Rodeo combines all the traditional rodeo favorites with unique local events such as the Beds Along the Big Horn Races, the Sneakers and Spurs foot race, evening street dances in Sheridan’s Historic Main Street District, and the WYO Rodeo Parade and Indian Pow Wow. As a member of the Million Dollar Tour of Professional Rodeos, the WYO Rodeo attracts the best competitors from around the globe with world championship caliber stock provided by Sankey Pro Rodeo.

Each of four nightly PRCA performances starts off with the time-honored roar of the cannon and the World Championship Indian Relay Races. Professional cowboys and cowgirls will be seen in bareback bronc riding, team roping, bull riding, barrel racing, and other popular rodeo events.  In addition to the evening competitions, morning slack performances will be held from Tuesday through Saturday.

This year’s rodeo week officially launches with the 6th Annual Chris LeDoux Memorial Golf Tournament, held at Top 100-ranked Powder Horn Golf Course. This two-day tournament is open to the public, and includes a practice round, BBQ, auction and live entertainment.

Between the rodeo performances, pancake breakfast, parade, and polo matches, visitors can tour Sheridan’s Historic Main Street District, visit 46 works of public art, play in the Bighorn Mountains, or watch reenactments at nearby forts and battle sites. For overnight accommodations travelers can choose from private cottage rentals, popular chain hotels, quaint local inns, and authentic dude ranches. Sheridan was named one of the 2011 Dozen Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the King of Cowboy Towns by Western Horseman Magazine.

Tickets are required for PRCA performances, but many rodeo events, including slack performances, are free of charge. For a full schedule of WYO Rodeo events and to purchase tickets visit www.wyorodeo.com
