Newman's Own Foundation Awards $10,000 Grant to New Eyes for the Needy

$10,000 Grant will purchase 172 pair of glasses for people in need

May 31, 2012 - PRLog -- New Eyes for the Needy’s See Clearly-Live Better program in the U.S. was supported by Newman’s Own Foundation once again this year with a $10,000 grant. This is the fourth consecutive year in which Newman’s Own Foundation has supported New Eyes’ eyeglass voucher program for people in need across the country.

“This grant ensures that 172 people get the prescription glasses and corrected vision they struggle without,” explained Susan M. Dyckman, New Eyes’ executive director. “We are deeply grateful for the Newman’s Own Foundation’s continued investment in our eyeglass program. Since 2008, the Foundation has corrected the vision of more than 1,400 people in financial need, opening doors to education, employment and greater independence in their daily lives.”

New Eyes purchases glasses through a voucher system that partners New Eyes with 4,000 eyeglass providers across the U.S. Applicants apply for assistance through a social service agency or school nurse. Applicants generally have incomes at or below the federal poverty level and are uninsured or have insurance plans that do not pay for eyeglasses. Once an applicant is approved for assistance, he receives a voucher that can be redeemed by any eyeglass provider that is willing to accept New Eyes’ reimbursement rates. New Eyes reimburses the provider directly once the glasses are made.
