2nd Annual Miller Family YMCA July 4th Festival, 5k/10k Run/Walk & Car Show

May 30, 2012 - PRLog -- NEWBURY PARK, CALIF.--Celebrate July 4th with a family festival, parade, car show and 5k/10k Run/Walk at the Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park (The Village at Dos Vientos, 320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park).

   A community all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast is from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a car show running from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Awards will be given to winners in 10 different classic car categories.

   The Miller Y Independence Day 5k/10k Run/Walk starts at 7:30 a.m. Runners and walkers will wind their way around the Dos Vientos neighborhood before finishing back at the Y. The walk is family and stroller-friendly. Awards will be handed out to winners of the 5k and 10k races at a 9:30 a.m. ceremony.

   Free live entertainment, a kids' zone and family activities begin a 9:00 a.m. with a patriotic Fourth of July parade sponsored by the Dos Vientos Homeowners Association at 10:00 a.m. The parade begins at the Dos Vientos Community Center and ends at the Y.

   "This is our second year hosting an Independence Day celebration. It's a great way to start off a family's July 4 festivities," says Katie Beck, Miller Y's executive director. "It's also a fun opportunity to meet others in the area."

   All run/walk registrations include a pancake breakfast. To register early, go to http://www.active.com and type in Miller Family YMCA. Online registration starts at $20 per person and $50 per family (immediate family only). Registration is also available on Sunday, July 3 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Road Runner Sports (1714 Newbury Park, 805-372-1415) and at the Y on event day beginning at 6:30 a.m.
