May 31, 2012 - PRLog -- A local shoe store and foot health facility, Foot Solutions of Estero, is continuing to make a difference…one shoe at a time.  The store will be hosting its annual “Summer Shoe Drive” to benefit the program, Shoes for the Cure, which accepts donations of used shoes to be recycled for materials and donated to charitable organizations.  In addition, Foot Solutions Estero is educating people on the dangers of flip flops, flimsy sandals, and other common summer footwear which can be very detrimental to foot health.  The store is encouraging people to donate their used shoes to an organization which can recycle the materials, or reconstruct the shoes into quality footwear to be donated to those in need.  More information can be found on Foot Solutions of Estero's website http://www.stores.footsolutions.com/estero

“As summertime approaches, we are always warning people about the dangers of flip flops or flimsy sandals, which provide no support, and can cause some major foot problems, back and joint problems, or even injury,” said Chris Cole, Owner, Foot Solutions Estero.  “During this summer shoe drive, we are encouraging people to bring in their used shoes, including flimsy flip flops and sandals, as well as used sneakers, dress shoes, or just shoes that they no longer wear.  These shoes will all be donated to “Shoes for the Cure”.  In addition, we will also provide anyone who comes in with a free foot assessment and recommendation for summer shoes or sandals that are more comfortable and better for their feet, back, and joints.”

For those flip-flop lovers who don’t want to give up freedom of the toes, Foot Solutions recommends some alternatives that aren’t as damaging to the feet.  There are specialty lines of flip-flops and sandals that provide arch support, stability, and absorb shock.   Foot Solutions of Estero carries a few lines of flip-flops, such as “Oofos”, a new brand of flip-flops that have become extremely popular. (Read more on Foot Solutions Blog site http://esterofootsolutionsblog.com)  In addition, they feature brands such as Orthaheel, Finn Comfort, Naot, Aetrex, and Aravon which all have options that are both fashionable and easy on the feet.

Cole added, “People can feel good about doing something that is not only good for their own health, but is also going to help out a great cause.”

“Shoes for the Cure” is a professional recycling company that specializes in collecting new and used footwear for recycling.  Donated shoes are either reconditioned for those in need, or materials are recycled and re-used as surface material for running tracks, tennis courts, or playgrounds.
The mission of the organization is focused on helping worthy causes through the recycling of materials used in footwear.  In addition, they are dedicated to keeping footwear out of the landfills, thereby helping to create a cleaner environment for future generations.

“In previous shoe drives, we have only been able to accept gently used shoes that are still in good enough condition to be worn or restored,” added Cole.  “However, with this program, we will be able to accept shoes or sandals in any condition.  Shoes that can no longer be used for footwear will be recycled for materials.   This allows us to, not only help those in need, but also do our part to help the environment.  More than 350 million shoes a year are discarded into landfills, and each rubber soled shoe can take up to 80 years to decompose.  As a footwear retailer, we feel it is part of our responsibility to help reduce this impact on the environment.”

Anyone who brings in shoes to Foot Solutions of Estero to be donated or recycled will also receive a free full Pedorthic analysis, digital foot scan, balance and gait analysis, and pressure map reading of the feet.
