Wilmette, IL – May 22, 2012 - Chicago Academic Tutoring announced the winner of their 2012
Service Award. After considering over 1700 candidates, Syeda Fatima of Regina Dominican High
School in Wilmette, Illinois has been selected to receive the $500 award. Gil Gibori, the Director
of Chicago Academic, will be presenting Syeda with this award at Regina’s Awards Convocation
on May 25th.
A boutique tutoring company serving the Chicagoland area, Chicago Academic works closely
with students, parents and educators throughout the city and suburbs. With this award, Chicago
Academic seeks to promote community responsibility and involvement among young, college
bound students.
Syeda was selected for her exemplary initiative and leadership in creating and administering her
Together We Feed organization. With just under $9,000 raised, managing 40 volunteers over
8000 miles away, Syeda was able to provide a year’s worth of food to 400 impoverished families
in India.
Michael Betlinski, her counselor at Regina, describes Syeda as “one of [their] finest seniors.” He
goes on to poignantly say “[at Regina] we pride ourselves in believing that our students will do
more outside the classroom than they ever do in it. Syeda is the perfect example with regard to
her charity work for her native India. Too often today’s youth are looking for a handout...Syeda
definitely looks at her gifts as a source of responsibility for future service.”
“Syeda was selected by our staff for the 2012 Chicago Academic Service Award for her
innovative and compassionate approach to community service on two continents,” says Gil
Gibori. “With all she has achieved, we are proud to help send this singularly exceptional Chicago
student toward a bright future of service and commitment toward an improved global
community.”
Chicago Academic is an in-home, private tutoring company, located in the West Loop
neighborhood, serving families throughout Chicago and the adjoining suburbs. They provide
tutoring and test prep services for all academic subjects and standardized tests for K-12
