-- To celebrate Communicators Day, PRCI Pune Chapter organized an interactive seminar for its members at Kapila Business Hotel on the 25th Of May 2012. The developments in Communication were discussed at length by a panel of experts comprising Vinita Deshmukh senior journalist & Editor Life 365 who gave the media perspective, Acclaimed academician Dr Keval Kumar, Reader and Dean Of Dept Of journalism at the University of Pune and currently associated with The Indira School Of Communication who touched upon its impact on the academic front and Rajita Kumar Senior Manager Communications at Sandvik Asia Pvt. Ltd. who deliberated on the corporate angle.
Speaking on the relevance of imbibing modern day communication techniques into all aspects of life, Shabnam Asthana Chairperson, said that “the networked economy today, represents the cornerstone of the communications age. “ She opened the debate by asking the panel whether they viewed it as “windows of opportunity or an incessant burden? ’’
During her address Vinita mentioned how investigative journalism and the use of the powerful social media had helped her expose the latest controversy on the Presidents’ land in Pune and how ultimately the power of the media compelled the President to surrender it. Dr Kumar cited the social media as a popular development amongst the young adults he interacts with, but at the same time cautioned those present on how to use discretion while using the powerful new age media tools and exercising the privacy options when needed. Rajita welcomed the developments and mentioned how even the orthodox mind set of the older generation working in a manufacturing set up is now receptive towards new modes of communication and is adept at using it efficiently to enhance their work style.
The audience had a good representation of corporate, students, entrepreneurs and academicians. The animated and healthy interaction that ensued proved very informative and interesting.
