Pete Olson to Compete in Formula Renault for 2012 Season

American race driver Pete Olson has moved up from the China Formula Grand Prix [CFGP] to compete in Formula Renault for 2012.

Olson will compete in the remainder of the Asia Formula Renault [AFR] season. Though Rounds 1&2 of the series took place in March, for 2012 the series will feature a 2-round points drop. Olson will compete in the remaining eight races of the series in the hopes of winning his first Formula Renault championship and the notoriety of becoming the first American to win a professional race series in China.

“I was able to work out a strong deal with Champ Motorsport to represent the team in the 2012 Asia Formula Renault series” said Olson. “As it’s a higher level series than CFGP – after all it’s the series that took Kimi Raikkonen directly to Formula One – then if I can get a ride with one of the leading Formula Renault teams in Asia to race this year’s Formula Renault series, it’s an offer any driver can’t refuse.”

The BELL-sponsored driver will be representing Champ Motorsport and continuing to advertise ChildFund [http://www.ChildFund.org] through his racing endeavors via Racing for Children.

Last year, in its first season under the race coaching of Pete Olson, Champ had its best series finish in Asia Formula Renault since 2008 with the team taking five wins, five 2nd places, and four 3rd place finishes in the 12 rounds of the 2011 Asia Formula Renault Championship, to finish 2nd overall.

The F2000 champion hopes to do it one better by taking the overall driver championship in 2012 for Champ Motorsport.
