Celebrated Hoofers of Television & the Silver Screen Help Local Dancers Dream Big

May 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Sacramento, CA — May 23, 2012 — On Saturday, June 16, 2012, organizers of the Dream Big Showcase & Dance Scholarship Competition will be helping the dreams of Sacramento’s youth come true. The all-day event will be held at Rosemont High School (9594 Kiefer Blvd). Tickets are $15 general admission pre-sales ($5 for students with an I.D.), and $20 at the door.

Looking to counter the effects of the economy, this event hopes to support local performing artists while supporting academics.

“There is a great need for the youth of this community to be active in creative activity like the arts”, says Tamaira Sandifer, event organizer. “This annual event creates scholarships for families in financial need so they can participate in performing arts.”

The Dream Big Showcase will feature a variety of events that include dance workshops, and a freestyle dance battle. Dancers from various films and television shows will be in attendance. Those scheduled to appear include:

•   Popin' Pete – original member of Hip Hop dance legends,The Electric Boogaloos, and a few of his accomplishments include performances on: So You Think You Can Dance, The Grammys, Soul Train Awards, BillBoard, TV Land Awards; Music Videos: Beat it-Michael Jackson, Crossed Eyed & Painless-The Talking Heads, Captain EO & Ghost- Michael Jackson; Theatre: Madhattan-Las Vegas, Funkstyles-Las Vegas. Including performing alongside Janet Jackson, The Black eyed Pea, and Co-Choreographing for both Justin Timberlake's and Gwen Stefani's 2007 tour. Pete writes & choreographs for a variety of shows as well.

•   Kyle Cordova – has appeared in Footloose (2011), Dancing with the Stars, and music videos for various recording artists including Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, LMFAO, and Rihanna. As well as as Justin Bieber’s recent European tour.

The day will conclude with a performing arts showcase where local dancers will be awarded dance scholarships to a variety of local studios and trips to various dance shows across the country. The grand prize winner will receive a trip to New York City to dance with the cast from Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance.
