Follow on Google News | The Projection Booth Podcast Honors Vets with Special EpisodePodcast honors vets with examination of all things "First Blood" from David Morrell's book to the Ted Kotcheff film to Flooding with Love for the Kid to the Son of Rambow.
By: Projection-Booth.com "The episode really started when Rob St. Mary joined the show and I asked him for suggestions for some upcoming shows," says Mike White, co-founder of the podcast. "He added Zachary Oberzan's Flooding with Love for the Kid to the list. I'd known about the film for a while but hadn't seen it. It is amazing. It's a one-man re-telling of David Morrell's book, First Blood." The 1972 book became a film in 1982, directed by Ted Kotcheff and starring Sylvester Stallone. The film spawned three sequels and added the Rambo character to popular culture. Oddly, Rambo began as a disenfranchised Vietnam vet who would later be embraced by Republican president Ronald Reagan as a symbol for "might makes right." Parodied by Johnny Carson, Leslie Nielson, 'Weird Al' Yankovic, Charlie Sheen and countless others, the Rambo story also inspired a cottage industry of rip-off films around the globe. First Blood also inspired Zachary Oberzan to create Flooding with Love for the Kid ( http://www.zacharyoberzan.com ) and Garth Jennings to write and direct Son of Rambow, a heart-warming coming-of-age film from the United Kingdom. Called "Flooding with Love for First Blood, Son", The Projection Booth's tribute to all things First Blood features interviews with Ted Kotcheff, Zachary Oberzan, David Morrell, & Garth Jennings. End
