Gadi Zamir - Artist Statement:
In truth, its is very difficult for me to translate my feelings towards art into words, and even harder to explain the meanings behind it. For me there is never the fear of an empty canvas, or a blank moment, or most recently, an empty piece of wood.
For the past few years hundreds of pieces of wood have worked their way into my hands from a variety of sources: construction sites, building board-ups, shipping/manufacturing uses, or just dropped off by friends. I have had the pleasure of continually unveiling the stories hidden within these pieces of wood. Each and every chapter of these stories was covered with dust, hiding in the grain. As an artist or author, I felt the urge to bring them to the surface. At times I felt that my imagination was useless and that my stories are already there in the grain - knots and dents waiting to be seen. As I continued working on each new piece, the stories grew bigger and went beyond a collaboration of grain, stain, and imagianation.
My art has beome a manifestation of inner fears, love, and thoughts appearing right there before my eyes. I know that I will keep on telling, or rather showing the story as long as I live; and while I will keep on connecting the dots and unveiling a story, the only thing I won't have as opposed to an author, is the end.
