The highly acclaimed Stratford Fringe Festival, (2–10 June) will feature more acts than ever before with 160 performances, events and workshops at more than 40 town centre venues in just nine days.

A show-stopping line-up featuring internationally renowned artists has already been secured for this year’s event and big name headline acts include TV comic favourite, Milton Jones, and world music broadcasting legend, Andy Kershaw.

Now in its third year, nearly 30 per cent of all events are free and 2012 also sees an expanded kids offering, sponsored by Stratford Town Council and Stratford Town Trust.

As well as more than 20 visiting theatre companies, the festival will also feature a host of home-grown local talent drawn from all sectors of the arts.

HEADLINE ACT: Andy Kershaw

Organisers of the Stratford Fringe Festival, 2-10 June, have announced a new addition to their headline line-up – iconic radio DJ and veteran broadcaster, Andy Kershaw.

Andy’s life-long passion for music was ignited at an early age.  As a teenager, he started living life in the fast lane as a rock promoter.  

Career highlights have included a stint as Billy Bragg’s driver and roadie, presenter for Whistle Test and Live Aid,  working for the Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen, as well as frontline foreign journalist, reporting from some of the world’s most extreme locations, including Iraq and North Korea, to name but a few.  

Credited with the popularisation of world music, Andy is one of the UK’s most decorated broadcasters, having worked for Radio 1 for 15 years, Radio 4 and most recently Radio 3.  Living life to the full in each and every way, Andy’s autobiography is aptly named ‘No Off Switch’, and he lives by the maxim ‘If you’re going to have one, have a big one!’  

Andy takes to the stage at the Civic Hall on 8th June at 6pm when he and the audience will be re-living ‘The Adventures of Andy Kershaw’.

HEADLINE ACT: Milton Jones

PERRIER AWARD WINNER TO MAKE STRATFORD FRINGE MERRIER

Organisers of the Stratford Fringe Festival, 2-10 June, have announced their latest headline act as internationally renowned, multi award-winning comedian Milton Jones.

Perrier Best Newcomer, Sony Award winner and Chortle website Headliner of the Year, comedian, author, broadcaster and presenter Milton Jones needs little introduction.  A regular panelist on BBC 2’s Mock the Week and guest on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow Milton, described as ‘the king of surreal one-liners’ makes his debut appearance at this year’s Festival.

“We are delighted to welcome Milton Jones to the Fringe Festival.  He takes to the Civic Hall Stage at 9pm on 8 June and is expected to be a huge draw and crowd pleaser!”  explained Stratforward Bid project manager and Fringe Festival organiser Marion Morgan.

Multi-talented Milton has recorded a live DVD with Pozzitive Television called ‘Milton Jones – Live Universe Tour.  Part One – Earth.’  He has a published novel entitled ‘Where Do Comedians Go To Die?’ and has previously had his own radio show ‘The Very World of Milton Jones’ for which he won a Sony Award.
