Electric Vehicle Charging Station Emergency Responder Safety Training

June 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Consumers, first responders and the general public have taken notice of all the press release regarding EV charging stations being installed on our city streets, universities, shopping centers and although it is very promising to see our country move towards the future, it has become alarming to hear our emergency responders are not being educated or prepared in case of an accident involving an electric vehicle charging station.

    It has become a growing concern for our emergency responder nationwide due to the lack of information and training in case of a catastrophic accident versus an EV Charging Station. “We have received a significant increase in phone calls, web traffic and  emails enquiring about our training and consulting services , we get calls from City Managers concerned for their first responders.” said James Maddox of Greenstar Concepts LLC.

   Electric Vehicle Charging Stations carry a significant amount of voltage, enough to kill a full grown adult or cause serious burns and injury.  This new technology comes with a price; the lack of training and protocols in place, in case of an accident, can cost lives.  Greenstar Concepts LLC recognizes the importance of education and training for first responders nationwide and has become the only company that offers this safety program.  We have contacted Fire Chiefs across the country and the same response has been echoed, “We have not been trained nor are we aware of training for first responders on EV charging stations.”

   There are multiple organizations that offer training for the electric vehicle program, which is also backed by the Department of Energy and NFPA.  There is the same amount of danger with charging stations as with electric vehicles and it seems this issue is not being addressed. “Our one of kind training program is an interactive hand on training program for first responders and educates each responder of the dangers involved,” said James Maddox, Charging Stations Safety Expert.

    James goes on to say, “we have devoted a significant amount of resources and money to develop this one of a kind training program and we are totally aware we cannot do this overnight and we need the participation from each fire chief and city agency nationwide.  With the number of charging stations being installed on a daily basis, it puts the public at risk especially in areas with heavy rain and humidity.”
