May 21, 2012 - PRLog -- The Las Vegas Chapter of The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies will host a luncheon on Friday, June 8, entitled “Arizona v. United States: Presidential Preemption v. State Law.”

The lunch presentation will be led by Dr. John C. Eastman, the Henry Salvatori Professor of Law & Community Service at Chapman University School of Law and author of an amicus brief on behalf of several members of Congress that was filed in the Arizona v. United States case.

WHAT:     The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies luncheon with Dr. John C. Eastman on “Arizona v. United States: Presidential Preemption v. State Law.”

WHEN:    Friday, June 8 at 11:45 a.m.

WHERE:    Fogo de Chao Churrascaria Restaurant, 360 E. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, Nev.

On April 25, the last day of oral arguments for the 2011-12 term, the U.S. Supreme Court considered the President’s lawsuit against the State of Arizona that seeks to prevent Arizona from directing its law enforcement officials from helping to enforce federal immigration law.  Eastman will discuss the impact of the case on law enforcement as well as the Department of Justice’s theory that by his own unilateral non-enforcement policies, the President can preempt state efforts to enforce the immigration laws that were adopted by Congress.

General admission to the luncheon is $40. State, county and city attorneys as well as students are invited to attend at a discounted rate of $20 per person. Members of the media are invited to attend the luncheon at no cost.

Attorneys can receive one continuing legal education (CLE) credit for attending the luncheon.

To RSVP or for details about CLE credit, contact Lynn Warren at 702-331-3219 or lvfedsoc@yahoo.com.

The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies is a group of conservatives and libertarians interested in the current state of the legal order. It is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be. The Society seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities. For more information: www.fed-soc.org.
