May 18, 2012 - PRLog -- It is impossible to restrain and if unleashed it will spread like “wild fire”! What am I talking about…? [Passion] or should I say Pass-it-on? It is contagious…it breeds the must have ingredient in success and that is MOMENTUM!

Let’s talk about the importance of momentum — often called The Big Mo (“Big Momentum”)

“Big Momentum”…a term used to describe behavioral momentum that operates on a large scale. This was originally used as a sporting term during the 1960s in the United States, to describe the effect that momentum appeared to have on a team’s performance.  Successful teams were said to have “The Big Mo” on their side. Now we use it to describe situations in which momentum is a driving factor.

If you’re into sports (any sport), you know the importance of momentum. In basketball, a team can go on a 10-15 point scoring spree. In soccer, one goal can completely alter the mindset of the players on both teams. One goes into defensive, why me mode. The other into attack, we can beat these losers mode. When that switch goes on/off, the talent gives way to momentum.

In Sales, it’s no different. At any given moment, momentum governs who wins, and who loses. The equivalent of talent – superior technique, selling skills, attention getters, customer service, etc. – matters at the start of the game, and perhaps in lulls in the game. In these down moments where each side is trying to build momentum, talent still matters. But it becomes much less important once the mind game is won (with employees, customers, and competitors), momentum develops, and that side is off to the races.

The point is, momentum is fickle unless it’s constantly fed positive news with passion (PASS-IT-ON) and then subsequently through actions that reinforce it.

Stay Humble–

Those who grow arrogant or reckless with their momentum will often find doing so leaves them open to attack, quickly reversing the tide of momentum.

So…what am I saying? We can turn the tide and gather MOMENTUM right NOW!! Find something or someone who’s passionate and let it rub off and spark the beginning ripple that will eventually if fed become the “Big Mo”! So let’s capture our thoughts and RIDE THE WAVE of momentum!!!

START’S NOW!!!
