May 17, 2012 - PRLog -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched a new effort to provide the public with information about bedbugs.  It recently developed a bed bug information clearinghouse website that provides a wealth of information in multiple languages.

According to the new website, “The information on these pages is intended to help states, communities, and consumers in efforts to prevent and control bed bug infestations.”  The website currently includes information from federal agencies, state and local governments, extension services, and universities.

“This is great news for people and businesses dealing with bed bug infestations,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane & Associates and the IAQ Video Network.  “This is an important issue that has impacted so many people’s lives.  We are pleased to see this development as we too have worked to educate people about bed bugs.  In February of this year the IAQ Video Network released an educational video to help make people more aware of this growing problem,” he continued.

Bed bugs, also known by their scientific name of Cimex lectularius, are small, flat, parasitic insects that feed solely on the blood of people and animals while they sleep.  Bed bugs are found across the globe. Although the presence of bed bugs has traditionally been seen as a problem in developing countries, it has recently been spreading rapidly in parts of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other parts of Europe.
