Local Senior Living Community Offers Non-Traditional Physical Therapy Program
Individualized Exercise Plans Provided at Plantation South Duluth

DULUTH, Ga. -- (May 16, 2012) –Plantation South Duluth (www.plantationsouthduluth.com), a senior living residential community in Duluth, is looking beyond traditional physical therapy options to keep their residents engaged and active.  
   “We’ve found that seniors are most receptive to physical therapy when we develop individualized plans that fit both their lifestyle and interests,” explains DeAnn Young,  interim executive director of Plantation South Duluth and regional manager of Senior Management Advisors. “Research shows that it is difficult to motivate seniors to begin to exercise if it hasn’t previously been a priority.    Young points out that traditional physical therapy programs usually focus on stretching, weight training, balance exercises and aquatic therapy. One resident, XXXX XXXXX, recently began a physical therapy regimen focused on gardening, one of her favorite pastimes. The physical therapy team worked with her to demonstrate what exercises she can incorporate into her daily gardening and pointed out others that she can accomplish simply by engaging in the activity.    
   “It’s important to understand that physical therapy isn’t and shouldn’t be a one-size-fits-all program,” says Young. “We’re committed to helping our residents live healthy, active lifestyles and take pride in being able to provide non-traditional physical therapy options that keep seniors motivated.”
