CSU Dominguez Hills receives donation from Edison International

California State University, Dominguez Hills has received a $25,000 gift from Edison International to support student scholarships.
May 15, 2012 - PRLog -- California State University, Dominguez Hills has received a $25,000 gift from Edison International.

The donation will specifically support two annual events for student scholarships at the university, the President’s Scholarship Reception and the College of Business Administration and Public Policy (CBAPP) Luncheon.

“CSU Dominguez Hills is proud to have partners like Edison International who, like us, see the value in investing in the education of this region’s diverse citizenry,” said University President Mildred García. “We thank them for their support.”

Held each year in April, the President’s Scholarship Reception raises money for the Presidential Scholarship Program, the university premier academic scholarship. Currently the scholarship provides annual tuition and other benefits to 20 students who represent the best and brightest at the university. Financial support from corporations such as Edison International has allowed the university to expand the program in recent years.

The CBAPP luncheon takes place during the fall semester and raises money for scholarships and faculty research within that college, while at the same time giving students an opportunity to hear from and network with local business professionals.

Edison International’s gift also includes an investment in the on-campus high school, California Academy of Math and Science and its Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Pathway to Engineering program, a rigorous series of engineering courses that offer a hands-on, problem-solving approach to learning.

“Edison International is pleased to partner with Cal State Dominguez Hills in support of student scholarships,” said Tammy Tumbling, director of Philanthropy and Community Investment for Southern California Edison. “We are also proud to be a part of the effort to foster the workforce of tomorrow by supporting higher education in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”
